The final of the Indian Premier League 2023 will be played between four-time champions Chennai Super Kings and defending champions Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, May 28.
CSK were the first team to make it to the playoffs after defeating the Titans in Qualifier 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway shared a partnership of 81 runs for the first wicket to take CSK to a total of 172, which their bowlers successfully defended. Deepak Chahar, Maheesh Theekshana, Matheesha Pathirana and Ravindra Jadeja picked up two wickets each to help CSK win by 15 runs.
After this loss, the Titans faced Mumbai Indians in the Qualifier 2, which they won by 62 runs. Shubman Gill slammed a knock of 129 runs to take the Titans to a first innings total of 233 for 3, in reply to which Mumbai were bowled out for 171 in 18.2 overs. Mohit Sharma, the wrecker-in-chief, picked up five wickets while Mohammad Shami and Rashid Khan picked up two each.
Meanwhile, when Gujarat and Chennai met in this season’s opening game, the Hardik Pandya-led side won by five wickets after chasing down 179 runs in 19.2 overs. Gill scored a half century in that game.
This will be the second successive final for Gujarat, while for CSK, it will be the 10th final.
