Arch-rivals India and Pakistan will meet for the second time in the Asia Cup 2023 when the fourth match of the Super 4 round gets underway at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The group stage fixture between the two teams was abandoned due to rain after the first innings, and unfortunately, rain has been forecast for their return fixture too. However, in case it does rain on Sunday as well, the match will be played on a reserve day. The match will continue on 11th September from the point it was suspended and ticket-holders can return to the stadium with the same match tickets.
In the abandoned match between the two teams, India batted first. Their top order comprising the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were not able to give a good fight to Pakistan’s potent pace attack. Shaheen Afridi became the first bowler in history to dismiss both Kohli and Rohit in the same innings. A half century each from Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya helped India make a comeback to the game and score 266 before it started pouring and the game was eventually abandoned.
The last time there was a full ODI between India and Pakistan was way back in 2019 at the World Cup in England. That match was won by India.
Pakistan, who are co-hosting the Asia Cup along with Sri Lanka, began their campaign with a big win over Nepal. After the abandoned game against India, they went on to defeat Bangladesh in the group stage and became the first team to qualify for the Super four. India, meanwhile, defeated Nepal in their second game.
