The ninth game of IPL 2023 will be played between two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders and perennial underachievers Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. This will be KKR’s first home game of the season.
While RCB still continue to search for their first IPL title, it can be noted that they have been one of the top teams in the last three seasons of the tournament. And they started the on-going season too on a strong note, defeating Mumbai Indians comprehensively in their first game. They put up a combined bowling effort to restrict MI to a first innings total of 171 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, which they chased down in only 16.2 overs. Virat Kohli remained unbeaten on 82 off 49 while Faf du Plessis scored 73 off 43. RCB have reached the playoffs in each of the last three seasons and will be looking to go all the way to the final this year.
KKR, on the other hand, appear to be one of the weakest teams this season. They lost to Punjab Kings in a rain-curtailed match and will be looking to bounce back stronger at their home ground. KKR have been Jason Roy as replacement for Shreyas Iyer, but Roy will not be available for the next game. He will be available from April 8 onwards.
