The eighth game of IPL 2023 will be played between runners up of last year, Rajasthan Royals, and the Punjab Kings, on Wednesday in Guwahati. Both the teams won their respective opening games of the season.
The Punjab Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by seven runs (DLS Method) in their first match. Their batting was what stood out, with the likes of Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Sam Curran and Jitesh Sharma delivering the goods. Rajapaksa scored a swift 50 off 32 deliveries to help the hosts post 191 runs in 20 overs in Mohali. They successfully defended the target on the back of impressive bowling from Arshdeep Singh, Sikandar Raza and Rahul Chahar.
Rajasthan Royals, on the other hand, defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 72 runs in their opening game. A half century each from Jos Buttler, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sanju Samson helped the Royals post a total of 203 for 5, in reply to which the Sunrisers were able to muster only 131 for 8. Jason Holder, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal delivered the goods with the ball for Rajasthan.
Both Punjab and Rajasthan have two points each, and will be looking for their next two points in the upcoming game in Guwahati.
