297/6 vs Bangladesh

Sanju Samson took flight and slammed his maiden T20I century as India powered to 297 for 6, their highest-ever T20I score and the second-highest overall, just behind Nepal’s 314 for 3. Samson slammed 111 from just 47 balls and got excellent support from Suryakumar Yadav, who smashed 75 off 35 balls. This massive total ensured India clinched a 3-0 series sweep, with Bangladesh falling short by 133 runs.

260/5 vs Sri Lanka

In December 2017, India set a massive total of 260/5 against Sri Lanka in Indore. This marked India’s highest score in T20 cricket. This high-scoring match saw India’s top-order batsmen dominate the game. Rohit Sharma led the charge with a spectacular 118 off just 43 balls, featuring 12 fours and 10 sixes. KL Rahul also contributed significantly with a quickfire 89 off 49 balls. The duo’s partnership laid a solid foundation for India’s colossal total. Sri Lanka, in their chase, struggled to keep up with the required rate, eventually falling short by 88 runs. India’s bowlers complemented the batsmen’s efforts, securing a comprehensive victory.

In August 2016, India achieved their second highest total in T20Is in a losing cause. Hosts West Indies posted a total of 245/6 batting first, in reply to which India gave a brilliant fight but fell short by just 1 run. KL Rahul played an unforgettable knock, scoring 110 not out off 51 deliveries, including 12 fours and 5 sixes. The Indian innings was also bolstered by contributions from Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni, who both scored briskly. In the final over, India required 8 runs but fell agonizingly short in a thrilling finish.

240/3 vs West Indies

In December 2019, India amassed 240/3 against the West Indies at Wankhede Stadium. The Indian innings was powered by a stunning display from the top order, with Rohit Sharma scoring 71 off 34 balls and KL Rahul adding 91 off 56 balls. Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 70 off 29 balls ensured a commanding total. The West Indies, despite a spirited effort, couldn’t match India’s explosive batting and fell short by 67 runs, handing India a comfortable victory.

237/3 vs South Africa

In October 2022, India scored 237/3 against South Africa in Guwahati. The Indian innings was highlighted by Suryakumar Yadav’s quickfire 61 off 22 balls and KL Rahul’s solid 57 off 28 balls. In January 2023, India scored 228/5 against Sri Lanka in Rajkot. Suryakumar Yadav stole the show with a magnificent 112 not out off 51 balls, with 7 fours and 9 sixes. His aggressive innings was the cornerstone of India’s total. Sri Lanka, in their chase, faced early setbacks and couldn’t build any significant partnerships, succumbing to the pressure of the chase and being bowled out for just 137 runs, giving India a 91-run win. Hardik Pandya and Arshdeep Singh picked up five wickets between them. 

225/7 vs Ireland

In June 2022, India posted 225/7 against Ireland in Dublin. Deepak Hooda’s brilliant 104 off 57 balls was the highlight of the innings, supported by Sanju Samson’s 77 off 42 balls. The partnership between Hooda and Samson set the platform for India’s total. Ireland, despite a good start, fell short by just four runs. 

224/2 vs England

In March 2021, India amassed 224/2 against England in Ahmedabad. The innings was anchored by Virat Kohli’s unbeaten 80 off 52 balls and contributions from Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. The aggressive batting display set a challenging target for England. In response, England’s innings couldn’t gain the momentum needed, and they were unable to chase down the target, falling short by 36 runs. Shardul Thakur was the best bowler for India with 3 wickets. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also chipped in with 2 wickets. 

222/3 vs Australia

In November 2023, India scored 222/3 against Australia in Guwahati. The innings was powered by an explosive 123 off 57 balls from Ruturaj Gaikwad. His innings, studded with 13 fours and 7 sixes, was the highlight of the match. Contributions from Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Verma helped India set a daunting target. Australia began the chase on a poor note but a century from Glenn Maxwell took them to a win. Maxwell was absolutely sensational, having scored an unbeaten 104 from 48 balls at a strike rate of 216.66. One of the highest score of India in T20 came in a losing cause.
