Babar Azam’s Test cricket journey is marked by significant milestones. His debut in Test cricket against the West Indies in Dubai on October 13, 2016, saw him making an immediate impact by scoring 69 runs in his first innings. Notably, Azam became the first player to register a fifty on his Test debut during a day/night Test match.
In November 2018, during the second Test against New Zealand, Azam reached a significant milestone by scoring his maiden Test century.
Azam continued to impress on the international stage, particularly during Pakistan’s tour of Australia in October 2019. In the first Test of the series, he scored his second Test century. Despite missing out on a consecutive century in the second Test when he was dismissed on 97, Azam ended the series with an impressive tally of 210 runs at an average of 52.50.
One of the most memorable moments in Azam’s Test career came during Sri Lanka’s tour to Pakistan in December 2019. This marked the return of Test cricket to Pakistan after a decade’s absence. Batting on home soil for the first time in Tests, Azam scored an unbeaten century. In the second Test in Karachi, Azam once again proved his mettle by scoring 60 and an unbeaten 100 respectively, concluding the series with an average of 262.
With nine Test centuries to his name so far, Azam continues to be a vital cog in Pakistan’s Test lineup. He has scored six Test centuries at home and three overseas.

In May 2015, Babar Azam earned a spot in the Pakistani ODI squad for the home series against Zimbabwe. He marked his ODI debut in the third ODI, impressing with a half-century.
Despite a string of poor performances that followed, Azam was selected for the home series against the West Indies in 2016. In the first ODI, he silenced the critics with his maiden international century, notching 120 runs off 131 balls and earning his first Man of the Match award.
His brilliance continued in the second ODI, where he scored another century, this time scoring 123 off 126 balls, aiding Pakistan to post a total of over 330 runs. In the third and final ODI of the series, Azam maintained his form, securing a third consecutive century with 117 runs off 106 balls. He set a new record by scoring the highest number of runs (360) in a three-match ODI series.Â
