In the first ODI, Mohammad Shami grabbed headlines with his five-wicket haul which restricted Australia to a first innings total of 276 runs. In reply, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill together scored 142 runs for the first wicket to take India to a win with eight balls remaining. Notably, KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav also scored half centuries.
India were much more dominating in the second ODI in Indore. Batting first, they posted a mammoth 399 as Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer scored a century each, and KL Rahul and Suryakumar Yadav scored half centuries. In reply, Australia were bowled out for 217 and lost the match by 99 runs via the DLS method.
Australia will be looking to lift their morale by winning the last game and avoiding a whitewash. This is the last series for both the teams to prepare for the World Cup which begins on October 5.
