India and Australia will be playing a three-match ODI series commencing on September 22 in Mohali. The series will be the last one for both the teams before the World Cup gets underway on October 5.

Australia are coming into the series on the back of a five-match ODI series loss to South Africa. They won the first two games of the series but lost the next three. India, on the other hand, are coming into the series on the back of a title win at the Asia Cup 2023. Apart from losing a Super 4 match against Bangladesh, India won all of their games at the Asia Cup.

KL Rahul will lead India in Rohit Sharma’s absence in the first two matches. For Australia, Pat Cummins, who is back in the squad after missing the series against South Africa, will be at the helm of the team. India have rested some of their senior players, but Australia will be at full strength.

Apart from skipper Rohit, India have also rested Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya and Kuldeep Yadav for the first two matches. In absence of an injured Axar Patel, India have included Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar in the squad.

Apart from Cummins, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell and Mitchell Starc are also returning to Australia’s ODI squad. Earlier this year, Australia defeated India 2-1 in a three-match series, but going by the recent performances by both teams, India will start as the favourites.
