India defeated Australia comprehensively in their tournament opener, but at one point during their chase, they are at 2-3. Openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma, and Shreyas Iyer, were all dismissed for a duck each. If not for a match-changing partnership between Virat Kohli and KL Rahul, India could have struggled to chase down a target of 200. Kohli scored 85 while KL remained unbeaten on 97, missing out on a century by just three runs. Earlier in the game, the Indian bowlers did a great job to bowl out Australia for 199. Ravindra Jadeja was the wrecker-in-chief with three wickets.
Afghanistan, on the other hand, lost their tournament opener to Bangladesh due to a poor batting show. They scored merely 156 runs batting first after Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 47. A total as small as that was always going to be a big task to defend, and as was expected, Bangladesh wrapped up the chase with 92 balls remaining.
