India and West Indies will play a two-match Test series, commencing on July 12 at Windsor Park in Dominica. The Test series, which is a part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship (WTC), will be the first red-ball series for both teams after the conclusion of the 2021-2023 cycle, the final of which India lost about a month ago. The second Test match will be played from July 20 at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad, following which a limited-overs series will also be played.
India will be led by Rohit Sharma, while Ajinkya Rahane will serve as Sharma’s deputy. The hosts, meanwhile, will be led by Kraigg Brathwaite, while Jermaine Blackwood will be the vice-captain
India have dropped senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav for this series, while giving a chance to young players like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad, both of whom impressed in the 2023 Indian Premier League. Jaiswal, who was the top run-scorer for Rajasthan Royals, with 625 runs in 14 matches at an average of 48.08, and has also scored double centuries in the Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy, and the Irani Cup, is likely to be in the playing XI. Meanwhile, India still awaits the return of Rishabh Pant, who has been out of action since his car accident earlier this year, and KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah, who are yet to recover from injuries.
West Indies, on the other hand, last played a Test series against South Africa, which they lost 2-0. The morale of the team will be down as only a few days ago, they failed to qualify for the ODI World Cup 2023. Last year, they failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2022 as well.
