India and West Indies are playing a two-match Test series, the first of which commenced on July 12 at Windsor Park in Dominica and was a comfortable win for India.
The hosts suffered a crushing defeat by an innings and 141 runs in less than three days in Dominica. The Indian spinners, led by Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, proved formidable, taking a remarkable 17 wickets out of 20 and wreaking havoc.
Considering Trinidad’s historical reputation as one of the most spin-friendly pitches in the Caribbean, the hosts have added Kevin Sinclair, a 23-year-old spin bowler, to the squad for the second Test.
This Test series, which is a part of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship (WTC), is the first red-ball series for both teams after the conclusion of the 2021-2023 cycle, the final of which India lost about a month ago.
India dropped senior players like Cheteshwar Pujara and Umesh Yadav for this series, while giving a chance to youngsters who impressed in IPL 2023, including Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad. Yashasvi, who made his debut in the first Test, scored a fine century. West Indies will be looking to avoid a whitewash, after being whitewashed by South Africa in their last Test series.
