Match number 35 of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 will be played between Pakistan and New Zealand on Saturday, 4th November in Bangalore’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Both teams are still in the race to the semifinals but if Pakistan lose this match they will be officially eliminated from the race.
New Zealand started their campaign on a high, winning all their first four matches. However, they have lost their last three games on a trot. In their most recent game, they lost to South Africa by a very margin.
The New Zealand bowlers considered 357 runs, in reply to which the batsman were able to score only 167, thus losing the match by 190 runs. This loss also largely weakened New Zealand’s net run rate. Apart from Glenn Phillips who scored 60 runs, no other New Zealand better was able to contribute significantly. After this loss, New Zealand are now in the fourth spot in the points table.
Pakistan, on the other hand, come into this game on the back of a win over Bangladesh. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Waseem picked up three wickets each to restrict Bangladesh to a first innings total of 204, which Pakistan chased down in 32.3 overs. Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman scored 128 runs for the first wicket. To stay in the race for the playoffs, Pakistan not only need to win this match, but win it by a big margin to overtake New Zealand’s net run rate.
