India will take on South Africa in the third ODI at Boland Park in Paarl on 21 December at 4.30 PM IST.
In the first ODI, India clinched victory with eight wickets remaining. South Africa, choosing to bowl after winning the toss, scored a meagre 116 runs—a record low against India in ODIs. Only three South African batters reached double digits, with Andile Phehlukwayo leading at 33 runs from 49 deliveries. Arshdeep Singh, who was named the Player of the Match, excelled with the ball, securing five wickets for 37 runs. Avesh Khan also delivered a standout performance, claiming four wickets for 27 runs in eight overs. Despite an early setback with Ruturaj Gaikwad’s dismissal for 23 runs, Sai Sudarshan and Shreyas Iyer’s partnership of 88 runs for the second wicket steadied India’s innings and took them to a win.
However, India lost the second ODI by eight wickets. Batting first, India posted a total of 211 runs on the board, with a half century each from Sai Sudharshan and KL Rahul. But India’s bowling was inefficient, as the hosts chased down the target comfortably. Reeza Hendricks and Tony de Zorzi scored 130 runs for the first wicket, with Zorzi scoring a century and Hendricks walking back on a half century. South Africa wrapped up the game with more than six overs to spare.
India have won only one ODI series in seven attempts in the rainbow nation, and this will be their best chance to win their second series. Ahead of the third and final ODI between South Africa and India, here is all you need to know.
