Bangladeshi fast bowler Hasan Mahmud made headlines on Day 1 of the first Test against India in Chennai with a standout performance. Mahmud dismissed prominent Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli, showcasing his exceptional form.

Mahmud’s impressive display began in the fifth over when he sent Rohit Sharma packing with a catch to Najmul Hossain Shanto in the second slip. He continued his remarkable performance by removing Gill, who chased a ball outside leg-stump and was caught behind. Mahmud’s golden run continued with the wicket of Virat Kohli, who was dismissed for just 6, caught behind by Litton Das.

At 24 years old, Mahmud has quickly gained recognition since his international debut in March 2020. Initially focused on white-ball formats, he made his Test debut against Sri Lanka in early 2024. His Test career started with a bang as he claimed a five-wicket haul in his second Test against Pakistan, significantly contributing to Bangladesh’s 2-0 series win.

Before this Test match, Mahmud had taken 14 wickets in three Test matches at an average of 25. He also boasts 30 wickets in ODIs and 18 in T20Is.

At lunch on Day 1, India was at 88-3, with Yashasvi Jaiswal on 37 and Rishabh Pant, returning to the team, on 33.

All eyes are likely to be on Suryakumar Yadav during the final round of Duleep Trophy matches, as India’s T20 sensation gears up to play for India B against India D. However, the other fixture, featuring India A against India C, also promises to deliver exciting action.
