The Copa America is the oldest ongoing continental football tournament and ranks as the third most-watched globally. Since 1993, it has typically featured 12 teams, including all 10 CONMEBOL (Confederación Sudamericana de Fútbol) teams and two from other confederations. Argentina holds the record for hosting the tournament the most times, with nine editions since its inception in 1916. Over its 47 editions, eight out of the ten CONMEBOL national teams have claimed victory at least once. Argentina and Uruguay lead the championship tally with 15 titles each.
The 2024 Copa América will be the 48th edition of the tournament, set to take place in the United States, co-organized by CONCACAF (The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football). This will be the second time the U.S. hosts the event, following the Copa América Centenario in 2016. Scheduled from June 20 to July 14, 2024, the championship will culminate in a final showdown on July 14 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida. The winner of this tournament will later play in the 2025 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions against the UEFA Euro 2024 champion. The 2024 Copa America will feature a total of sixteen teams, with ten representing CONMEBOL and six from CONCACAF.
The opening match of the tournament will feature the reigning Copa America and world champions, Argentina, led by the legendary Lionel Messi, facing off against the winner of the qualification playoff between Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.
