ACA VDCA Cricket Stadium History

The scenic cricket stadium on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam was established in 2003 and is known for its excellent drainage. The stadium hosted its first One Day International (ODI) in 2005, where Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored his first ODI century with an impressive 148 against Pakistan.

In November 2016, after gaining Test status, the stadium hosted its first Test match, where India defeated England by 246 runs. It held its first T20 International in February 2016, with India’s Ravichandran Ashwin taking 4 wickets for just 8 runs, dismissing Sri Lanka for a low total of 83.

The stadium has also hosted IPL matches and was the home ground for the Deccan Chargers in 2012 and shared with Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2015.

Andhra Cricket Association 

The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) serves as the governing body for cricket in Andhra Pradesh, India. Established in 1953, it has been affiliated with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) since its inception. The association plays a key role in promoting and organizing cricket in the state and operates the ACA-VDCA International Cricket Stadium.

C. K. Nayudu, the first captain of the Indian cricket team, was instrumental in founding the ACA and served as its first president. He also captained the Andhra cricket team. Over the years, the ACA has developed several international players, including M. S. K. Prasad and Venugopal Rao.

ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium Pitch 

The pitch at Visakhapatnam’s stadium is known for being favourable to batsmen, making high scores common. It supports spin bowlers, with less bounce, so batting second can sometimes be challenging. However, the dew can sometimes help the team batting later.

The stadium features a two-tier design and the ACA VDCA cricket stadium stands were specifically created to ensure that all spectators have an unobstructed view of the field, eliminating any pillars or columns that could block view.
